Matariki Songs

When Matariki strikes in late May or early June, It is the time for family members and friends to get together and sing songs and fill there spirits with joy, They sing different types of songs such as (Waiata) which tells them about the story of the 7 or 9 sisters, or Te Papa which is another song people sing during the Matariki stars event,Te Papa is a song about the 7 or 9 sisters as well. The last song is Matariki Macarena when people sing to have some joy on Matariki day.

Maui & the sun

Long time ago the sun soars through the sky, Maui’s people get frustrated by the second, This is because the sun moves to fast. So Maui got petrified and called his brothers. “Let’s make ropes out of flax” Maui said. “YES” The brothers replied loudly. Maui and his brothers stumbled to the pit where the sun rises, Maui waited til the sun rises so he can slow the great sun. The sun rises high and Maui shouts “THROW THE ROPE NOW”, Maui and his brothers released the ropes and captured the sun. Maui quickly went up to the sun and smacked him with his magical hook, That was made out of his grandmothers Jawbone. He smacked the sun multiple times and the sun got exhausted and went around the island slowly and slowly. So now Maui and his people can do whatever they want for hours and hours.

Matariki

What is Matariki?

Matariki is a Maori new year. It begins in late May or early June when Matariki stars can be seen in the night sky.These are a cluster of more than 300 stars but only 7 can be seen because they are the brightest.

The meaning of Matariki is tiny eyes or the eyes of God. Matariki constellation is a very bright constellation of stars that can be seen without a telescope.

Anzac recount

ANZAC day is a sad day to remember, Knowing that hundreds of soldiers died for us during World War 1. ANZAC stands for Australian New Zealand Army corp.

Today Tamaki Primary School had a big assembly outside, So we can remember those who fought for our country. Mrs Kelly presented the Australia and New Zealand national anthem. “Stand up for the national anthem” Mrs Kelly says. We stand proudly and as soon as the anthems finish, Mr Reddy puts on a beagle and in the moment of silence we wait until the beagle finished.

As soon as the beagle finished classes presented their Memorial things towards the dead soldiers, Room 6 gave their poppy’s away and quietly walked back to where they were sitting. Shortly it was all about to end, But still one performance was still to be presented, It was a rap by Amon, Timote, Suave and Auckland. The rap was very touching and was very very COOL!, TPS (Tamaki Primary School) showed lots and lots of respect, So now we’ve headed back to our classes.

-Some have shells on the outside of their bodies

Measurement 2019

Today Room 6 learnt how to measure using Metres, Centimeters and Millimeters. Room 6 quietly lined up out in the corridors and went to the dots to where we had our little class meeting. We were in groups of 6,5’s and 4’s. My little group were Keru, Jordan, Orlando and Eh htoo. We measured our principals office to the end of our school kitchen. We had different jobs to do while we were working, Keru was in charge of holding down the ruler(With Orlando), Jordan was the describer, Eh htoo was in charge of doing calculations and I was in charge of doing the chalk. Many minutes went by and we had only got half-way there. “Pick up some paste” Keru says, “YES!” the group says with excitement. 3 minutes came by and we had finally finished the job. We got 46 metres and 61 cm. Afterwards we met up with Mrs Sharma and all the other groups, We had a little chat and we went back to class
